Pictures are circulating this weekend answering and raising more questions about the change in signage to my employers beautiful Firehouse HQ when they returned to business as not as usual in the late ’80s.
If you saw or are just seeing the horrifying picture of the iconic Ghostbusters sign from these photos, rest assured the Ghostbusters logo sign that hangs outside the firehouse (as seen in Ghostbusters as well) still exists unscathed, more or less.
When my employers went back into business (for marketing) a new “Ghostbusters II” sign was ordered and used. Believe it or not the original sign had been in storage within the damaged firehouse for over 5 years. When Hollywood came a calling, a new sign was perfect for a sequel, marketing, and promotion. Its easy to overthink, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote an explanation for a change in signage.
During the montage only part of the scene made the final film and the “dilapidated” prop Ghostbusters sign isn’t seen being “dropped by a pair of workmen” or put into their work truck.
Hopefully if Sony Home Pictures Entertainment releases a new Ghostbusters II DVD and/or blu-ray, we’ll see the above scene complete along with the rest of the deleted Ghostbusters II scenes.

Hey, I’m not saying anything. In fact, I kinda like it. My only complaint is that someone forgot the second “leg.”
Was the new sign suppose to have two legs? If we hadn’t seen the new logo animated or artwork which has been “dissected” 25 years later fans might not be talking about it.
I wasn’t thinking about it this much when I was around 12, since its a ghost and we didn’t really see its legs (with the exception of The Real Ghostbusters) in the first movie, why did it need legs anyway? The “no ghost” is sorta a traditional kinda ghost. That “leg” should have just been a “wispy” tail.
I suppose Michael Gross, Dan Aykroyd, and Ivan Reitman know the answers to what we’re talking about. Maybe one of them, probably Michael Gross could give is a definitive answer if he wanted to.
